Water Line Replacement
Do you think about your water line often? Our guess would be – probably not. But, our team at Lake Cook Plumbing, your local Buffalo Grove and Suburban Chicago plumbing experts are here to remind you why it’s important that you do.
Your water line is one of the most important components of your plumbing system, as it carries all of the water into your home from the city treatment plant. The reason you don’t think much of it is because the lines are often buried under landscaping and within the foundations. Because they are hidden, they are difficult to access, inspect, and service.
Water lines aren’t indestructible and at some point may need replacing. We want you to be aware of the signs that it needs to be replaced so you can take care of it as soon as possible.
If you see the following, you’ll know replacement is necessary:
- Reduced water pressure in your home
- Visible water flowing from the ground or foundation
- Water damage on the floors
- Weak or damp ground around your home
Water Line Replacement Solutions
Why are we so insistent on you recognizing the signs your water line needs replacing? Because addressing problems quickly will significantly reduce water damage done to your home.
When you call Lake Cook Plumbing to repair or replace your water line, the first thing we’ll do is conduct a camera inspection. This allows us to see into the water line and pinpoint the exact cause and location of the damage without destroying your foundation.
In most cases, it’s possible to repair the line using a food-grade epoxy coating that seals off pin leaks, holes, and gaps while also eliminating the chance of corrosion in the future.
However, in some instances, that coating just won’t be enough. If you have lead or Polybutylene pipes in your home, they will need to be outright replaced because those materials are unsafe for your water supply. The removal of hazardous pipe material does require some excavation of your property, but we always do our best to keep that destruction to a minimum.
