Sewer Replacement

Sewer Replacement In Lake Zurich

Your sewer main is the most crucial part of your home’s plumbing system because of how much waste is routed from the house to the city’s main. Unfortunately for homeowners everywhere, the sewer main is hidden deep underground and, thus, is not maintained very well. You may not even think about your home’s sewer pipes until there is a serious problem – like a sewer line clog. No matter what your sewer troubles end up being, your local Buffalo Grove and suburban Chicago sewer replacement experts at Lake Cook Plumbing are here to help.

Sewer Main Stoppage

In many cases that we’ve seen, a sewer main blockage can be cleared with one of our state-of-the-art drain snakes. The snakes we use at Lake Cook Plumbing dislodge and break up the clog, allowing water and waste to drain out of your home, into the sewers.

If, even with our greatest effort, the clog remains, you may need to replace your entire line. But, we won’t go forward with that until we do a thorough inspection and know with certainty that there are no other options.

How Do We Know Your Main Line Needs Replacement?

We have years of sewer replacement experience under our belts and have learned throughout those years that if your main line backs up more than once a year, you are far better off replacing it. Replacement is more cost-effective and will give you peace of mind that you have a reliable sewer mainline.

We will also know you need a replacement if there are roots involved in the clog or blockage. At that point, there’s really nothing you can do but replace it. Roots are a common pipe blockage problem because they are attracted to the nutrients, oxygen, and water that your pipes hold.

So, What Happens Next?

  1. Despite how tough sewer main replacements can be, they’re a necessary evil.
  2. Your yard or driveway may need to be excavated to access the line and start the replacement process.
  3. If your sewer line requires this kind of work, the sewer replacement team at Lake Cook Plumbing will perform the necessary work as quickly as possible, and try to keep destruction to a minimum.
  4. Rest assured that you will not be alone to clean up the mess, either. We will stick around after completing the work and help you restore as much of your property as you can.

Slip Lining

If your sewer line is not too badly damaged, you may be able to get away with a repair. The method we like to use is slip lining because it’s non-invasive and is a relatively inexpensive option.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Slip lining is completed by installing a smaller pipe into a larger one. This process grouts the annular space between the two different sized pipes and seals the ends.
  2. Once that’s completed, you’ll notice that your sewer main line flows like new!
  3. Whenever possible we will use trenchless techniques like slip lining because they keep the sewer line repair costs down. It’s not always an option, but when it is – that’s what we choose!

Vent Stack Repair/Replacement

Do you even know what a vent stack is or does? If not, we’re here to fill you in!

A vent stack is the part of your plumbing system that removes sewage from your home. It also releases sewer gas and regulates air pressure in the waste-system pipes, helping to facilitate flow.

  1. Waste enters your plumbing through toilets, sinks, and showers and exits through a necessary trap, or dipped section of pipe that always contains water. All fixtures in your home must contain traps because they serve to prevent sewer gases from getting into the house. Through those traps, the fixtures are connected to waste lines, which in turn take the waste to a vent stack.
  2. The drain-waste-vent is attached to the building drain’s lowest point. It rises inside a wall up and out of the roof. Water is removed from the building through the building drain and is taken to the sewer main.
  3. Vent stacks are normally pretty maintenance-free, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a problem if something were to go wrong. They can significantly disrupt your plumbing system and make your home smell really bad.

How Do We Know Your Vent Stack Needs Repair or Replacement?

Determining if the vent stack needs replacing is the easy part – you look to see if your drains are gurgling or emitting sewer gas odors. The tough part is the repair/replacement process.

Even if you are the most experienced do-it-yourselfer, you should still hire a professional to do this job. Unsupported cast iron stack pipes can come tumbling down if they are not cut with proper supports.

Service weigh cast iron can be difficult to penetrate if you don’t have the correct tools and equipment. Another problem you could run into is incorrectly putting together drain and vent piping. If not done right, it can cause damage to the existing piping system and cause gurgling or bobbling in fixture drains, improper trap function, or clogging.

Don’t leave it to chance – hire the experts here at Lake Cook Plumbing to take care of your sewer and/or vent stack replacement.
